New Smash Bros. Brawl Character: King Dedede

Oct 25 2007 @ 15:24:09

The self-proclaimed king of Dream Land, King Dedede, joins the ranks as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. King Dedede hails from the popular Kirby game series as the primary antagonist and arch-enemy of Kirby.  The new King Dedede character will be in the Heavyweight class, standing along side the likes of Bowser and Donkey Kong.  His primary damaging attack will come from his mechanized wooden mallet.  His entrance brings the total number of playable characters in SSB up to 23 so far.

PictoChat Stage in Super Smash Bros.

Oct 23 2007 @ 22:59:44

A new Super Smash Bros. Brawl stage has been revelaed: PictoChat. The basis for this stage is chat and etch-a-sketch like software that is built into the Nintendo DS handheld. While playing on this stage, the screen and landscape is constantly changing and being re-drawn. It makes for an interesting and entertaining level, if nothing else. From the official Smash Bros. website:

"There are only a few nonsense stages in the only "slightly" nonsensical Smash. But there isn’t any stage more nonsensical than this."

I couldn't have said it better myself.  Visit the official site for more information and good screenshots.

Wii gets USB keyboard support with 3.1 firmware upgrade

Oct 10 2007 @ 11:17:57

That lovely soft glow is a telling sign: A new firmware version has been released and automatically downloaded to your Nintendo Wii console.  What's in it?  My inbox says it's firmware version 3.1, but is scarce on the details.

This update concentraites mainly on two things: USB keyboard support, and adding clickable auto-hyperlinking URLs in messages and on the Wii Message board over the internet channel that will open in the web browser.  Another nice feature in this update is the ability to copy and paste text directly from a website into messages or other areas on the Wii.  We'll keep you posted as we find out more changes.

Win a Wii and a 50" Plasma TV from Rockstar

Oct 04 2007 @ 12:03:20

Rockstar has just announced a contest to give away a Nintendo Wii and a new 50" Plasma TV. The selected winner will receive a special Manhunt 2-themed "bloodstained" Wii (custom stickers are applied to the outside of the console and remotes) along with thier nice big 50" plasma. While I'm not sure anyone would want a "bloodstained" Wii prominently displayed in their living room, at least the plasma is nice and the stickers are easy enough to peel off. Visit the offical contest entry page if you're interested.

NEW Super Mario Galaxy Footage - Game Intro Video

Oct 03 2007 @ 11:14:58

Nintendo may have finally re-captured the NES "magic" with this upcoming Mario release Super Mario Galaxy. The intro video appears to borrow some elements from other Mario games (especially Super Mario Bros. 3), and re-mix them in a much, much cooler way.

Watch the video on YouTube

This video seems to be a very good display of the actual graphic capabilities of the Wii. Great job, Nintendo.

New Nintendo Wii Remote Jackets - FREE to All New and Old Wii Owners

Oct 02 2007 @ 11:15:42

Nintendo just accounced a new accessory for the Wii: the Wii Remote Jacket. It's a silicone sleeve for the wii remote that enables the user to get a better grip on the remote. The remote jacket's bulbous upper dimensions also allows it to double as a remote cusion for the rare occasion that it might be inadvertantly thrown across the room into a wall or TV. The thicker silicone cusioning at the top of the wii remote jacket will protect the wii remote (and possibly other objects) from damage.

Nintendo is now including the new silicone wii remote jacket with every new Wii console sold, and existing owners can request a wii remote jacket through a special NIntendo website or through Nintendo's toll-free number. Up to 4 wii remote jackets can be requested per console.
